Instagram Lately

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Hey y'all. Today is going to be an Instagram photo dump. If you don't follow me, my Instagram handle is @geeksandglam (<---- shameless self plug) I have seen many of my favorite bloggers do this and it's one of my favorites. Enjoy.

Liam had a breakthrough yesterday. He  showed empathy for a baby that was crying. Such a sweet boy!

Princess Nora loves doing daddy's hair.

Pumpkin spice mini loaves with white chocolate chips. This will be up on the blog this week.

A little fall decor.

I couldn't resist these new mugs!

My new favorite juice! Oh how I wish we had a fresh juice bar here in town.

Lastly we started playing 'Descent' it is so.much.fun.
It is similar to D&D without the detailed back story. Its mostly just the fights. They also have a Star Wars version that is identical to this. I kind of wish we would have known about it before we got this one.

Basil Pesto Chicken and A Blog Makeover

Friday, September 25, 2015

Hey y'all.
First things first, did you notice the new blog makeover?! Isn't it just precious? Secondly, I have the easiest and YUMMIEST  recipe today. I have been thinking about making a recipe section for awhile. I made this recipe the other night after I saw someone post it on FB. And OMG. It was amazeballs. Like Mr. Geek was groaning as he ate it. I also called dibs on the leftovers. For eternity. Yes, it was THAT good. Plus, it only have 4 ingredients. Chicken breast, basil pesto, roma tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. You can whip it up within 40 mins (that includes cooking time) and only one dirty dish. I wish I could insert the smell of this chicken as it's cooking. I want to bottle it up and make a perfume from it. Is that weird?  Now on to the pictures.
Pull out all four ingredients.
I buy my basil Pesto from Krogers in the deli section.

Please don't mind the walls, we are renovating the kitchen and the back splash is the last thing to get done.

Cut up on tomatoes.

Lay them on the chicken

Sprinkle some cheese on top.

Throw it all in a 400 degree oven and set the timer for 35 minutes.

Doesn't that look delcious?!

Basil Pesto Chicken

3-4 chicken breasts
1 container of basil pesto
1 Roma tomato
1 cup of mozzarella cheese

Preheat oven to 400
In oven safe pan lay chicken in single layer.
Put a generous spoonful of pesto on chicken
Add tomato slices
Sprinkle cheese.
Bake for 35 mins or chicken juices run clear.
Enjoy.

Some pictures from Arizona

Friday, September 18, 2015

Hey Y'all,
Sorry it's been kind of quiet around here. I got back from AZ on Tuesday. I had an amazing time. I got to spend time with my best friend, sister and parents. I went out there because my best friend was getting married (and holy smokes, she looked gorgeous!) It had been almost 3 years since I had seen her so it was really good to pick up where we left off. Here are some pictures from my stay in the sun (literally. it was 106. kill.me.now.) Sorry about the quality of the photos, I'm pretty sure my camera is going out on my phone. Enjoy.
Getting Ready in the Bridal Suite.

Officially MARRIED!

Then I headed over to my parents house and we got some sweat time in.

We played Doctor Who Monopoly.
I didn't win.

This was our "We are going out to eat and gain 5 lbs" face

Then this happened. My favorite meal of all time.
Red Chili Burritos (enchilada style)
and EEGEES.

I came down the walkway to three little monkeys attacking me with hugs and kisses.
Logan talked about the surprises they made me all the way home. I walked in and found this sign.
I may have cried. Just a little.

I am so glad to be home with my kiddos and Mr. Geek. I sure did miss them. Have you taken any vacations lately? Or plan too in the near future? Let me know in the comments.

Guest Blog Post: Target Clearance and Dollar Tree Haul!

Monday, September 14, 2015

Hello! My name is Meridith and I am a friend of Mrs. Geek. I have a blog called Diary of a Nerdy Wife where I chronicle the myriad events in my life. I'm a coffee chugging, cloth diapering, table top game playing, binge reading wife and stay-at-home mother. Today I’m going to share my Target and Dollar Tree haul. We’re an enlisted military family, so to say that we’re on a budget is an understatement. So, even when I splurge and spend money on something that isn’t a necessity I tend to use coupons and stalk the clearance shelves. Today the only concrete goal I had was to get supplies to make flower pens for a fundraiser at my son’s preschool, other than that I was just looking for a good deal. Here’s what I ended up with:
Target: I stuck with clearance and the 1-3$ Spot only. I spent $7.99 and I ended up with-
  • a Princess Sophia toy to give as a Christmas gift for a friend’s daughter
  • some Minion themed Crayola crayons
  • 2 small spray bottles (I’m going to use them to hold the solution I use to sanitize my makeup pallets
  • a pack of 2 gift bags

I was particularly happy about the Princess Sophia toy. Christmas is always a difficult time of year for us financially, so I like to bargain shop a few months out and store gifts away like a squirrel stores nuts. That way, when the holiday rolls around I’m not scrambling to find something for everyone.

Dollar Tree: I started getting a few decorations for the Autumnal holidays and got most of what I needed to make flower pens for the fundraiser. I spent $9.77 and ended up with-
  • 4 sheets of Halloween/Thanksgiving themed window clings
  • a pack of ball point pens
  • 3 bunches of flowers
  • a pack of sparkly fall leaves

All in all I was very happy with what I got for the money (I only spent $17.76 without using any coupons). A frugal mom is a happy mom!

Yes, that is a pumpkin & Pecan Waffle candle. Damn you Bath & Body Works for discontinuing them

Recent buys

***Disclaimer this post is NOT sponsored in any way. The companies do not know me, I did no receive any compensation. All opinions are my own.***

Recent buys

Hey Y'all

Here are a couple recent buys that I am absolutely in love with. First off the Lorac Pro Contour Palette is amazing. Seriously, it's lifeFREAKINGchanging. I went back and fourth between the Lorac Pro and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette but in the end the Lorac won. Honestly, the brush is what sealed the deal. If you have $45 run don't walk, RUN to your nearest ULTA and get this.
Next up, are these American Eagle boho Artist Jeans. I haven't worn jeans in over a year. Literally. I walked out of the bedroom and Mr. Geeks mouth dropped open. That is when I knew I had to keep them. They are super stretch, which usually means super saggy .5 seconds after wearing them but I was pretty happy with how these held up throughout the day. And can I just say how happy I am that flare and boot cut jeans are coming back?! Can I get an AMEN from all the thick calved girls of the world who have ever tried on skinny jeans or God forbid, jeggings.
Cowboy boots by Coconuts are basically heaven sent. I purchased them through Amazon for a wedding I will be in next week and once my foot hit that sole I was in love. I told Mr. Geek that I am not sending the other pair back (I accidentally bought the same pair in the wrong color) that is how much I love them.
Last but certainly not least is this plaid shirt, I was a little worried about the bust size in this but it is fine. With fall right around the corner, I can see myself wearing it a lot. It is super soft and long enough to pair with leggings (yay for having a short torso) and boots. Well, that is it ladies. I hope this was helpful. What are some recent buys y'all have gotten lately? Anything I have to pick up? Let me know in the comments!

Fall Bucket List

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Hey y'all,
I thought it would be fun to share our fall bucket list. We try to cram as much stuff as we can into the months where it is actually cool and not broiling or snowing. Having three kids we NEED to take them out and let them release all their energy otherwise we have lots of fights on our hands. Plus, autumn is my absolute favorite season. I would live in boots and sweaters if I had the choice. So, without further ado here is the Geek Familys' Fall Bucket List 2015:

Do you have a bucket list? Or any fall traditions you do with your family every year? Let me know in the comments!!

Tap, Tap, Tap, is this thing on?

Monday, September 7, 2015

Hey y'all. It has been so long. Everyone has been sick and there has been some extenuating circumstances but I am back.
Logan and Nora Cate both went to school this year. Logan started second grade and Nora Cate started preschool. Liam will be going to Pathfinder which is a preschool for special needs kids, he should be starting within the next week or two depending on how long the referrals take. They have both been doing so good. Nora Cate has of course had a couple of days that she cried when it was time for me to leave but I believe that is all behind us. Tomorrow I will be doing a haul and on Wednesday I have a little geekiness with a board game review (!!!) now on to the pictures...
